I worked with Mariana Tamashiro during the Summer 2019 semester as part of a THING Lab project.
Most of our work was with a motion-tracked paintbrush and paint bucket used to trace physical objects into a VR space. The paintbrush would paint in VR when an electronic switch was activated through pressure on the bristles. This would trigger coloring on the vertices being painted in Unity. The signal was sent with UDP from a Wemos D1 Mini ESP8266 board embedded in the brush and powered with a LiPo battery. Paint color was selected by rotating the paint bucket to control hue and touching the brush to the bucket. We also looked into erasing paint with a sponge tool and painting large areas with a splash motion of the paint bucket but these were not fully developed.
